Setting goals

Today's topic is goal setting 101; the basics for setting goals that get results.

Believe it or not, there is an art to goal setting particularly if you want to build a lifestyle business. It's pretty easy to get so consumed with success that you forget to build a life along the way.  One day, you look up and realize that while you might be successful you are truly miserable.

That response can make you want to throw in the towel, and some people do just that. They are so miserable they just quit.  Some folks decide being an entrepreneur is just too hard and they go back to …gasp…a 9 to 5 job.

It's so much better to take a step back and do a thorough assessment of where you are, how you got there, and exactly what you need to change.   Here is the thing to remember:

This is Non Negotiable….

You have to consciously design this life and your lifestyle. It doesn't happen automatically. For most of us, it comes after a lot of trial and error, and after we get really sick and tired of being stuck where we are.

One more thing to realize is that it takes a lot of work to set up these systems. However once you do that, it's a one-time process for the most part.

Step One

It's time to pull out a piece of paper. What is it you want to stop doing?

Before you can design a plan for doing only what you want to do, you must first do a thorough assessment of everything you do.  Once you have done that, it's time to put a check mark by each and every task you no longer want to do.

Once you know what those things are, you can begin to formulate a plan for getting rid of those.  You can get some help, outsource or just decide those tasks should no longer be on your plate.

I wrote a step by step plan for goal setting about this time last year. That information is as relevant today as it was then so be sure to check it out.
