mindset

The past few weeks have been a roller coaster for me that included both endings and beginnings.  I lost a good friend a couple of weeks ago after a long illness.  Her memorial was held over the weekend, and yet here I am. Jumping right back in to my life; to all the things I have to do.

In just a few days I will be co-hosting a 3 day event called Branding, Books and Beaches for a group of folks coming to Louisville. They will be here to learn, and I am really happy to be a part of their transformation.

On one hand I am really excited about the event. But at the same, time I am mindful (and sad) about what has changed in my life.  And if I were to be completely truthful, I feel guilty that while her life has ended, mine goes on without missing a beat.

The undeniable fact is that life goes on for some, in spite of the fact it ends for others. So the question is, how can we make the most of our time?

Decide that Today is Going to Be a Great Day

No matter what was going on in her life, my friend always said “Today is going to be a great day”. She said that until the very end.

So what does that have to do with real estate investing and business in general?  Actually, quite a lot.

Traveling down this road with my friend, has made me acutely aware of several things. The biggest thing perhaps is knowing how I spend my time is a choice.

The fact is that none of us knows how much time we have, so we’d better figure out what’s important to us and move down that path; our path with purpose.

About the Small Stuff…

I have been reminded about how often I “sweat the small stuff”.  Details matter in business. But in one year or even 5 years from now, how much of the things that seem to drive all of us crazy in the moment are really worth having a bad day over?  Very few I would venture to say.  We should always have the big picture in mind when sweating the small stuff.

How You Feel is Almost Always a Choice

It’s infinitely easier to make lemonade out of lemons, than to simply dwell on our present circumstances.  We might not be able to change our circumstances at this moment, but we can sure change the way we feel about our situation. Once we truly commit to changing our viewpoint, everything becomes easier including the circumstances that are struggling with.

Here is what I know for sure; all that worry and stress takes a terrible toll on your health and the quality of your life.

Just For Today

Just for today, spend some quiet time just looking at your life.  Your circumstances.  Your business. The time you spend with family and friends. Then make a decision about how you’re going to change those things (lemons) that would make your life a better journey while you’re on this trip.

Once you do that, you can finally begin to build a business, a life and a lifestyle that you love.

I love my work, but that doesn’t mean that I should be working all the time at the expense of everything else.  Like most everyone else, I have some changes to make.

None of us knows how long our journey will be, so we need to greet each day with joy and gratitude.

I Will Leave You with a Question …

What is one thing you could put into place today that would make a positive change in your circumstances?
