I know I have written about this topic before, but I recently got a question from a reader about “sneaking in to do a few repairs” without following the EPA Lead Based Paint Renovation Guidelines.
I only have one thing to say; it's a bad idea.
Sure; the chances of you getting caught are pretty slim. You have to be in the position typically where one of two things happens:
- Someone turns you in to the appropriate organization.
- You happen to be the unlucky one that “accidently gets caught”.
I can tell you this; it just isn't worth the chance of ending up with a giant fine to save a few bucks or to keep from putting in the time to document your work.
So exactly what do I need to do?
